Test Prep Lesson (Test Anxiety Strategies and Having Grit)

Testing, testing, 1-2-3. Yup, it’s that time of year again. (Insert eye roll here). As we all try to instill hope into our little people as the high-stakes testing puts way too much pressure on them than is developmentally appropriate… (sigh) … it’s test prep lesson time. I shy away from these lessons on some years more than others thinking they already hear too much about “THE TEST”. But today I did this lesson in 3rd grade and I am sooooo glad I did. I got to talk students through test anxiety tips that some kids are not hearing from their parents and teachers. One little boy put his hand as high as it would go on the nervous thermometer when we did a pre-lesson check in. In the middle of the lesson, said ” Hey, Ms. King….my thermometer is going down”. Excellent news Michael, excellent news. Here is the PPT for this lesson that could be used Grades 2-6.
