This is a fun and interactive Worry Monster/Coping skills lesson with a PPT to guide you through this fun craft. Teach students self-regulations skills and send home “not-a-worksheet” that parents are sure to see and …. poof…. a home discussion ensues.
The poem on the card says: “Whisper your worries in the monster’s ear. It gobbles them up, so they disappear.“
This activity and ppt ( available here ) can be done for small group or classroom lesson. While I used recycled bottle caps as the base for the kids, you could have the kids do this craft in many ways. You could provide googly eyes and let them draw the rest. You could give them scraps of recycled materials and they will be so creative. You can even just let kids draw their worry monster on this card. This is the on the other side of the Worry Monster card. (Also, great for being “not-a-worksheet” to get parents’ attention when they bring it home!)
Don’t forget to make the worksheet double sided with COPING SKILLS on the back of the Worry Monster.
