While these simple activities are absolute &#8220;must-dos&#8221; for the little ones, they can easily be used across any elementary grade! Here are a few quick ideas to get those wiggles out and minds focused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Ironically, I wrote a book on this very thing &#8230; how to increase engagement&#8230;and it was just released. (eeek!) Here is a<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/a.co\/d\/07n3q4T0\"> link to the book<\/a> that has engagement ideas for grades K-12, but more on that later. Warm-Up (2-5 minutes)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I begin with a warm-up activity. This could be relevant to your lesson or not. It gives the kids a minute to regulate and get ready for the learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stand if you agree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chant or song with finger play<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the hidden picture\/ How are these pictures different<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow my pattern (me first then you)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simon Says<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some examples of warm-ups I use on <strong>these <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1Im93FK0Rb258FiDrhpCJ9RGVKc1_F3Os\/edit?usp=sharing&amp;ouid=100833190427711601767&amp;rtpof=true&amp;sd=true\">slides <\/a>you can<\/strong> save, download and add to your lesson<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Lesson Content (5-7 minutes)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-tahiti-gold-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ec5ee44655af7db0bbd7355e33d205a5\">Part 1 Structured Instruction <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read a book<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Show a short video<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use short interactive ppt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Giving students frequent opportunities to respond with thumbs up\/down or different yes\/no callback response helps them stay engaged during the longer \u201csit and get\u201d teaching chunks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tahiti-gold-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-66386b7d2a8ad9dd1b6254a9a64f2970\">Part 2 Briefly Review Content:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have several students choose a question card to answer. ( I always have the whole class say \u201cPick a Card, Any Card.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn and talk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roll and respond<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Say the lesson theme in different ways (baby voice, robot voice, whisper)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. The person who has the object when the music stops, answers a question about the lesson<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cake Walk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Different stretches while taking deep breaths.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow the leader to a song. (March, Tiptoe, Clap)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice calming stretching poses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4.
