Indiana School Counselors Association Conference is coming up and I can’t wait to present a session on “Why Kids Behave The Way They Do”. As we head into the holiday season, we are all seeing some behaviors ramping up and I thought I’d share some of the resources from this workshop for anyone interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, we have to go back to basics. Good ol’ grad school facts about behavior. 1) All behavior has purpose and 2) All kids are just striving to belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why They are Acting this Way?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Remembering the 4 goals of misbehavior is one of my go-to conversations with teachers and parents and it helps determine why a student might be acting a certain way. What of these 4 goals are they seeking? Sometimes all you have to do is think about how YOU are feeling to determine if it’s attention, power, revenge, or avoiding failure<\/strong>.
